Alice & Alex' Story

'The photos are AMAZING!!!!! Can’t thank you enough - we love them so so much'
-Alice and Alex

Alice and Alex got married in summer but nevertheless a big storm hit The Hague, which is very uncommon in The Netherlands in summer. They had their ceremony at Het Spaanse Hof, which is a former city palace. It was a gorgeous destination wedding in stormy The Hague that not even the biggest storm could mess up! Apart from the unusual weather, it was also a special wedding for me to shoot because as someone who specialises in destination wedding photography I rarely get to shoot in my home town The Hague.

Bride and groom prep

Alice got ready at boutique hotel Bergers B&B with her 5 bridesmaids and her mother, and the atmosphere was so energetic. The group then walked a 2 minute walk to get to the ceremony. Alex got ready at Ibis Styles together with his groomsmen. The boys travelled to the ceremony on foot too but from the other direction then the girls.

The ceremony

The ceremony was a typically Dutch long but very funny at former city palace Het Spaansche Hof in The Hague city centre. The historic building was amazingly decorated by stylist Wendy of SBSN and floral designer Edénique. During the ceremony celebrant Guusta had created a great ceremony. It was really fun and personal. Apart from the live string trio one of the guest also sung a beautiful rendition of Lloyd Webber's Piu Jesu. After the ceremony there were drinks and canapés in the courtyard of Het Spaansche Hof.

The reception

The reception was originally at Naturel Beachclub at The Hague Beach in Scheveningen. They choose the venue because the light decor is gorgeous and the food is incredible. It was a beach wedding, which would have been great. I love shooting beach weddings because they’re always so chilled. But only a couple of days before the wedding their wedding planner had to change venues because the storm made it too risky. For the 1st time in 10 years a wedding at their venue had to be rescheduled but the team pulled it together and moved the reception to Xiringuito. This is also a beach club but because it's next to the boulevard it is more sheltered from the wind. For dinner they served a buffet, which was so yummy. The first dance was an impressive choreography, and they finished off the evening with a great party made by my favourite wedding band The Big Swingers.

The best part of the day was when we did a 10 minute portrait session in the storm on the beach, because it made for some amazing photos. The light around sunset is always beautiful but now it was even better as it was being filtered by the blowing sand. They also had the most beautiful bridesmaids dresses, that was a great surprise during the getting ready – they were the most beautiful bridesmaids dresses I have ever come across!
