‘They are epic!!!! Seriously super stunning!!! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻💕💫✨💫✨💫✨ SO awesome to look back at the day and they’re sooooooo stunning! We’re so thrilled about them! 🙏🏻😍‘
When I first met Sonja at wedding fair Engaged and she told me about their orchard wedding in Zuidschermer (a village near Amsterdam), I was so excited – because she and Johan were planning the most beautiful and stylish dusty blue wedding with an outdoor ceremony, a live band and even a sunset shoot. Sonja and Johan are the sweetest people and I couldn’t wait to shoot their wedding!
I began the morning at their home, where the bride was getting ready, completely relaxed and surrounded by her daughters, her mother and her friends. Sonja wore an amazing modern and flowy wedding dress and Johan wore a beautiful light blueish grey suit and they looked so perfect. After the first look we went to the nearby dunes for the shoot. Together with my second shooter and the videographer Inge of Oh Wonder Films we made some gorgeous images of these two beautiful people in this beautiful landscape.
They had personal vows they had written themselves, which they shared between them during their photoshoot. As to keep their ceremony short and sweet, especially for their children to not become bored. The ceremony itself took place in the orchard of the happy couples home, and was a small ceremony which was accompanied by live music by The Big Swingers. After the ceremony they walked down the aisle together and were showered with biodegradeble confetti made from dried flower petals, and then they cut the cake. A delicious cake made by Sprinkles Bakery, created with buttercream in exactly the right shade of dusty blue.
After the ceremony
During the reception they had The Big Swingers play in a small formation, with a singer, saxophone and piano, which gave the afternoon a really chilled vibe. For dinner everyone sat at two long tables, styled by Te Leuk Trouwen, and it was loved by all the guests. After dinner, a very special moment was created by the bride. She gathered all her friends, took them aside in the orchard and gave them all individual speeches, telling them why she loved them and thanking them for being her friends. This was followed by a sunset shoot in a nearby wheat field. When we returned the band kicked off the party and everyone hit the dancefloor. They also had more confetti, which was a huge hit. While the bride, groom and their guests danced the night away, this most wonderfully fun and stylish day came to an end. I had a blast capturing the abundance of emotions and not to mention all the pretty that was so carefully chosen by bride, and fellow wedding photographer, Sonja.
Sonja and Johan met more then 10 years ago and as a wedding photographer Sonja has seen quite a few weddings in all different shapes and sizes. Their advice to future couples getting married: ‘If you’re planning a wedding, make sure you hire vendors that you trust, that way you can relax on your wedding day and don’t have to worry because you know everything will be just as you discussed.’
