When I first met Y&C at wedding fair Engaged in October last year I knew their wedding would be a treat to photograph. As a wedding photographer specialised in destination weddings I often travel to places and venues that are completely new to me. But not this time because I got to fulfil a long time wish of shooting a wedding in a botanical garden. I am mesmerised by the old Victorian green houses you can visit at London’s Kew Gardens, in the botanical gardens of Dublin and Brussels (go check them out they are all magnificent) and the Netherlands has a couple of really pretty botanical gardens too, for example the botanical gardens in Amsterdam and Leiden are to die for. But Y&C decided upon a botanical garden that is close to their as well as my heart, Utrecht Botanical Gardens. I studied in Utrecht myself and if you had a look at my about me page you’ll have seen the portrait of myself at the top of the page, this image was also shot at the botanical gardens of Utrecht.
But enough about this dream of a venue and back to this dream of a couple. Because boy did I have a great time hanging out with these people. And as a cherry on top of the treat of hanging out with some of the most fun and laid-back people I’ve ever worked for, I got this amazingly sweet review form the bride. BEFORE THEY HAD EVEN SEEN A SINGLE IMAGE the bride wrote this on review site ThePerfectWedding.nl:
“Zelfs zonder de foto’s gezien te hebben al een dikke 10 voor Renate. We hebben ontzettend veel plezier gehad bij het maken van de foto’s en ook in de voorbereiding verliep alles heel duidelijk en prettig!”
Translated in English: ‘Even without having seen the photos I want to give Renate a 10+. We have had so much fun while making the photos and in preparation to the wedding everything went so smoothly as well!’
Reviews like this make me so happy and when I saw a photo of the bride with her dad I almost teared up myself (although I’m quite pleased with my own work, tears welling up while editing is not a regular thing for me). But I’ll keep that one a secret until I delivered all of Y&C’s photos. Enjoy a selection of the preview:
